Silicon carbide 36 is our extra coarse graded grit for very rough, angular rock and large pieces that need heavy shaping. Use it before the standard coarse step to take off sharp edges and bulk material faster, then continue with 60/90.
The material can be used in rotary tumblers, and for lapping and other coarse grinding work. A single grit is an inexpensive way to get a good amount of silicon carbide for the heaviest grinding jobs.
Available in two sizes:
- 7 ounce
- 11 ounce
How much to use: about 2 tablespoons per pound of rock in a rotary tumbler. Check the stones after a few days, and move on to 60/90 once the heavy shaping is done. See our grit stages guide for choosing a coarse grit.
