Choosing products
Which kit fits my tumbler?
Our refill kits are made for Lortone, Thumler’s, Harbor Freight, National Geographic and Smithsonian tumblers. For other rotary tumblers, our standard grit kits are sized for a 3 lb barrel. Not sure? Tell us your tumbler model and we’ll recommend one.
How much grit do I need?
In a rotary tumbler, use about 2 tablespoons of grit per pound of rock for each step. A vibratory tumbler needs about 1 ounce per step for a 3 to 5 lb load. See how much grit to use.
Which grit should I start with?
Most rough agate, jasper and quartz start with 60/90 coarse grit. Very rough or large pieces may need 36 or 46/70, and already-smooth stones can often start at 120/220. Our grit stages guide explains each step.
Do you make custom blends?
Yes. Tell us your tumbler brand and barrel size, what you’re tumbling and the finish you want, using our contact form.
Does grit go bad?
No. Silicon carbide and aluminum oxide don’t expire. Keep them sealed and dry, and keep each grit separate so a coarse grain never ends up in your polish.
Is tumbling grit safe to use?
Use it as directed: keep it away from children and pets, avoid breathing dry dust, and never pour used slurry down a drain. See what to do with used grit.
Payment
How can I pay?
We accept major credit and debit cards, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay on supported devices. Payments are processed securely, and we never store full card numbers.
Do you charge sales tax?
We collect sales tax where required by law, based on your shipping address. Any tax is shown at checkout.
